Another Plug

You can now read something I wrote at Tiny Mix Tapes:

I set out to write something about the Killers and ended up with this. Go figure.

I enjoyed this piece greatly but find that I disagree about the conclusion drawn at the end: didn't we always decide what we ought to be guilty of from our friends? Did record companies ever tell us that their pop sensations were worthy of our disgust? I think it's more or less on the right track though: perhaps, the increasingly monolithic nature of record companies offerings lead to a certain snobbishness about their product, lead to a divergence of what they were willing to invest in and what was demanded by certain segments, lead to an expanding, Internet-powered balkanization of musical tastes, lead to a decline in the snobbishness of that monolithic product (now that it is only one among many equally-available options). Maybe.

That was fabulously unclear but hey it's the Internet.
